8th grade Social Studies will look slightly different this year. We will not only be covering more material than in the past (as per our regional curriculum), but the format of the class will be different.
I have created a structure that we will follow each week as we cover various topics. The biggest difference will be that we will do very little lecture in class. The chart of the week can be found under the "8th Grade" tab, but to give you a rough idea I have included an outline below:
Monday: Video introduction to the week's content (3-5 short videos to present initial content).
Tuesday: Extension to content, class discussion to encourage higher level thinking skills
Wednesday: Primary source work - each week we will work with a different primary source document as it applies to our topic
Thursday: Project/Assessment work day
Friday: Students will discuss current events and/or work on the Project Citizen curriculum
Grading
The other big change will be the grading structure:
65% Summative assessments (Final projects)
25% Quizzes (Typically over videos)
10% Homework
